Working with St. Joe Lead Company, Kollmeyer screened area children for high lead levels in their blood. She also educated their parents on the dangers of lead in children's blood. After the program ended, she started doing patient visits, seeing patients weekly to monitor their needs and set up medications.

"While inside patients' homes, we've learned that caregivers have questions, such as 'How do I turn someone in bed?' or 'How do I administer medication?'" says Barbara Level, CHPN. "These classes give them the opportunity to ask questions directly of our professionals."
Caregivers can attend one or all topics. The classes are sponsored by BJC Home Care Services, the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital and Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospital. For more information, contact Barb Level, 314.575.3983.
Medicare Patients Qualify for Oxygen Therapy
Nighttime oxygen levels can be tested in patient's home
Until recently, for Medicare patients to qualify for oxygen therapy, a pulse oximetry test was performed during a visit to the physician's office. However, some patients were oxygen-deficient only at night during sleep; therefore, there was no easy way to test these patients without admitting them to a hospital or sleep center.
For patients who do not have lower oxygen levels during the day, BJC Home Care Services now offers the WebOx system. A tamper-proof pulse oximeter with easy-to-follow instructions is delivered to the patient's home before bedtime and picked up the following morning. Oxygen information is downloaded onto secure software and transmitted to an independent diagnostic testing facility. Results are sent to the patient's physician and BJC Home Care Services. The test is covered by Medicare and most private insurance companies. For more information, call 314.205.8600 or toll-free 888.BJC.HOME.
BJC Home Care Services Ranked Number One Nationally in Patient Satisfaction
Four additional awards given to branches for landing within top 10%
The Metro branch of BJC Home Care Services has received the Overall Top Performer Award in the home care category by Professional Research Consultants (PRC). The award is based on the percent of patients who rated BJC Home Care “excellent” for overall quality of care when surveyed by PRC. BJC Home Care’s patient satisfaction scores were compared with those of 43 other home care companies across the United States.
“The Top Performer Award is certainly one of the awards everyone aspires to,” says Jane Cira, manager of customer satisfaction research for BJC HealthCare. “BJC Home Care Services received the highest rating in the database, and that is outstanding. Being compared to other companies that provide the same services helps put your service scores in perspective.”
Four areas of BJC Home Care Services received the Five-Star Award for scoring in the top 10 percent of patient satisfaction compared to other home care companies in PRC’s national client database. BJC HealthCare branches receiving the Five-Star Award and scoring between 90-99% satisfaction are Alton Home Care, Managed Care, Sullivan Home Care and Metro Home Care. This is the first year that awards have been given by PRC to home care organizations.
