Types of Therapy
Physical Therapy
Physical therapists rehabilitate patients disabled by strokes, broken bones, joint replacement, trauma or disease to help improve strength, mobility and coordination.
Speech Therapy
Speech therapists retrain patients to effectively communicate after they've experienced a stroke, tracheotomy, laryngectomy or other disability. Speech therapists also are skilled at correcting swallowing disorders.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists teach everyday activities -- such as opening a medicine bottle with one hand, putting on shoes or opening cabinets -- to improve a patient's level of independence. The home is adapted for maximum safety, and task-oriented therapeutic activities are taught.
