BJC Home Care Nutrition Support Services provides comprehensive nutritional evaluations and optimal nutritional intake to patients who receive enteral and parenteral feedings to help them lead fuller, richer lives. We provide this service for home care patients, as well as for those in acute care, long-term care and rehabilitative care.
-
All lab work is provided directly to the patient's physician each morning, saving time and phone calls
-
Our nutrition care provides adequate energy and protein to meet hypermetabolic demands, decrease catabolism and prevent protein and calorie malnutrition; this results in decreased susceptibility to infection, increased ability to combat infection and accelerated wound healing
-
Our staff educates patients, families and caregivers about parenteral and enteral nutritional care
-
Our staff is involved in research to increase knowledge about clinical nutrition and metabolism

Patient Safety Standards
Our staff follows a number of high standards to provide patients with high-quality, safe care.
A monitoring device attached to the pump module enhances the safety of our automatically compounded total parenteral nutrition (TPN). During compounding, the system immediately stops and alarms if an incorrect solution type is detected.
Our two-chamber container for TPN solutions provides maximum stability by keeping the IV lipid emulsion separate from other TPN solutions' components until the bag is ready to be used. A pull tab makes it simple to mix the contents of the two chambers.
Standardized Protocols
Our protocols address:
-
Frequency of laboratory monitoring
-
Use of insulin in patients with diabetes
-
TPN use in Hyperemesis Gravidarium
Only BJC Nutrition Support Services Has Direct Access to Patient Information
Our pharmacists have the unique ability to understand the complete picture on each patient by having direct access through clinical desktops to patient information such as:
-
Lab reports
-
Radiology reports
-
Surgical reports
This allows them to understand the condition of the patient immediately for that point in time. In addition, on-call clinicians have round-the-clock access to patient data and medical records. This allows them to make immediate informed decisions rather than waiting until results are available during business hours.
